The DELL - before and after

The Dell - RSC's outdoor performing space . . . . In July, it looked like the top photo - a bank of 200 seats (to the right), the stage to the left. What you can't see is that behind the stage was the river - a wonderful view for the audience.

The Dell is home to the RSC Complete Works Fringe. Any amateur company could book the space on the weekend and perform something Shakespeare related. I have seen some pretty strange things!

A few weeks ago arsonists burnt down the seating bank. The remains are what you see in the bottom picture. You can't see just how far the fire went up into the trees, but it was damn high. Quite depressing, but the phrase "The show must go on" has been aptly used here.

With a kind donation of blankets from the Thistle Hotel, performances have been continuing each weekend sans stage and sans seating. To be honest, it works much better without the seating! Will take some photos of the new look Dell to show the real before and after photos!
